International Conference on "Human Resource Development for Introducing and Expanding Nuclear Power Progammes"

The objective of the conference is to provide participants with practical tools that they can use at organisational, national, and international levels to develop and maintain the human resources needed to support the safe and sustainable introduction and expansion of nuclear power programmes; such as:

  • Better understanding of common problems and issues regarding human resource development;
  • Practical guidance that can be used at the organizational and national levels to develop a sustainable human resource policy;
  • Identification of international cooperation approaches that could be initiated or strengthened to address human resource issues at regional and international levels.

International Conference on Management of Spent Fuel from Nuclear Power Reactors

Appropriate management of an increasing amount of spent fuel is a key issue for the continued and future use of nuclear energy. Spent fuel storage wet or dry is currently the norm for spent fuel management worldwide. Some countries successfully reprocess and reuse their spent fuel but most keep it stored long term. Spent fuel from nuclear power reactors requires safe, secure, environmentally sound and efficient management that will ensure that future options for spent fuel management are kept open. The IAEA pays careful attention to the collection, analysis and exchange of information on spent fuel management in order to contribute to the safe storage of spent fuel from a technological as well as from a safety point of view. To this end, meetings on spent fuel storage have taken place normally every four years since 1987. The most recent international conference on this topic was held in Vienna in June 2006.

The objectives of the International Conference on the Management of Spent Fuel from Nuclear Power Reactors are to exchange information and experience on a variety of aspects of safety management for SNF, including: technology advances in spent fuel storage, operating experience in storage; global outlook for spent fuel management including reprocessing and disposal; the safety framework of spent fuel management; issues related to spent fuel ageing, integrity and long term data management; public perceptions of spent fuel management activities.s.

Sixth International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC 2010)

The primary purpose of the congress is to transfer knowledge from the current generation of leading
scientists and engineers to the next generation. Scientific, political, public and corporate views
regarding the development of different nuclear issues will be presented to provide comprehensive
discussions on all sides of the subject. Since it is the youth who will go on to deal with all nuclear
prospects and challenges in the future, open and candid commentary from this younger generation will be encouraged.
